kz7.com - NAS Storage

We offer a new Backup Device that converts almost any old computer into a NAS, or Network Attached Storage device. This new device comes with fully automated backup utility software and is the most cost effective backup solution available today. Here are some of the features:

Setup the included software to backup 1 to 100 network connected machines automatically, on a schedule for each that you choose. Just "set it and forget it". You set the folders, times and network resources consumed.
Hardware can be fully installed in about 30 minutes.
Can be accessed and configured through your web browser, world-wide.
Your backed-up files an be accessed through your web browser, world-wide.
Instantly creates a RAID 1 setup with 2 identical hard drives, or RAID 5 setup with 3 or 4 identical hard drives.
This system creates an instant "file-server" that all network machines can access without the use of Microsoft Small Business Server. This saves thousands of dollars in software and maintenance. We have seen one client installation testimony of 75 connected users accessing over 15,000 online files.
This system creates an instant "ftp-server" that all network and/or internet machines can access without the use of Microsoft Small Business Server. This also saves thousands of dollars in software and maintenance.
This solution is very economical. While other NAS devices cost thousands of dollars, our solution starts at under $300 on the basic end, and you could setup a 1 Terabyte RAID 5 NAS for about $1500. This solution of hardware and software costs less than corporate backup software alone.
Unlike tape backups that are stored compressed and sequential, our NAS solution makes your files available, online 24/7, just as they appeared on the original machine. You can even drop-and-drag to restore.
No OS is needed, so that saves another $200 to $300 in operating system cost and setup.
No floppy drive and no CD-Rom drives are required. They are OK if present.
I have assembled three styles of the new Network Attached Storage device. These are described in detail below.

The model at the left is the most dramatic of the three, using the new plexiglass "Ice Cube" computer. This cost of this model is higher, because all the parts are new. Configured with Pentium 2.4 ghz, 256 mb RAM, and twin 120 gig hard drives for true RAID-1, the unit costs $795, plus labor to setup on your network.

The most economical solution is to design the NAS around a used Pentium II or III machine, like the one at left. The only extra I added was a huge hard drive for backing up an office group of 5 machines.

The cost on this unit starts at just $300, plus setup labor onsite.

I also setup a slim 1U server case to backup my rack of web servers. Since I already owned the extra 1u server, the cost was the same as the unit above, or about $300.

The forth unit we installed was into a sturdy Dell business class machine. It is a Pentium III with only 128 megs of RAM. This machine has many more years of life in it and the unit cost was only $120. We popped in a used 80 gig hard drive and the NAS device and created a lovely Network backup device for about $400. Setup time was about 2 hours onsite. Just "set it and forget it".
